Surbana Jurong clinches four awards at the HDB Design and Engineering Awards for quality living environments

Singapore, 14 November 2022

Member company KTP Consultants Pte Ltd and Surbana Jurong (SJ) Township team won four Design and Engineering at the annual HDB Awards this year for their excellent engineering and design solutions at UrbanVille @ Woodlands, Bedok Beacon, Northshore StraitsView and Upper Serangoon Heritage Corridor.

The complex and successful engineering techniques applied for UrbanVille @ Woodlands secured KTP the Innovative Engineering Award (Design). Located at Woodlands Central, eight residential blocks are to be set amidst a myriad of commercial and community facilities. The project will also feature a 22-metre skybridge connecting a pair of twin towers. The skybridge is constructed using precast technology to ensure structure durability, safety and maintainability. As the project sits on an uneven plot, the engineering team also designed an innovative retaining wall system to create an environmentally sustainable earth-retaining structure. It is slated for completion in 2026.

KTP’s engineering design solutions for Bedok Beacon, an integrated development that supports active ageing, clinched them the Engineering Award (Design). The team created landscaped winding walkways with demountable and creative retaining structures, and improved productivity in the construction of the tower blocks with the use of a precast Large Panel System.

“We take pride in innovative engineering solutions that solve complex construction problems and help ensure quality living environments for all. We are very honoured to be recognised for our team’s excellence and innovation capabilities, and these awards are a testament to our hard work,” said Mr Aaron Foong, KTP’s Managing Director.

SJ’s Township team was awarded the HDB Design (Housing) award for Northshore StraitsView. The public housing project comprises five 26-storey blocks with a resort ambience. Patrick Lee, Director, Architecture in the Township team, said, “It is rare for a public housing project to have an immediate sea frontage for the whole community. Both residents and visitors enjoy generous sea views from different angles, and at different heights. Designers made a conscious effort to transform this excellent locale into an environment for sharing and forging community relationships.”

The team also won the HDB Design (Rejuvenation) award for its design of the walking trail along the Upper Serangoon Heritage Corridor. The project is a collaboration with the National Heritage Board and the Housing and Development Board. The team made provisions for preserved trees and a butterfly garden to increase biodiversity levels. The team also used sculpture, statues, floor patterns, educational boards and artworks by a local artist to showcase local heritage along the trail.

Surbana Jurong has built more than a million homes in Singapore and have created master plans in more than 60 countries.

A total of 22 HDB Design, Construction and Engineering Awards were presented on 11 October 2022 to architectural and engineering consultants, as well as building contractors for projects that have demonstrated excellent design, engineering and construction.
