Adelaide Superway

This A$812 million Adelaide Superway project is South Australia’s largest investment to date, in a road project.

Located in Adelaide, the South Road Superway is a 4.8 km non-stop corridor, including a 2.8 km elevated roadway with multiple lanes (in each direction) from the Port River Expressway to Regency Road.

The Adelaide Superway provides improved accessibility to Port Adelaide and key industrial hubs. It provides a significant freight arterial route connecting Adelaide Airport, Islington Rail Terminal, Port Adelaide, Outer Harbour, and connects the rapidly expanding industrial and residential growth areas in the north and the south of the city.

The Adelaide Superway has reduced travel times by up to seven minutes for the 45,000 vehicles that use this section of road every day, increased the efficiency of freight transport, reduced the impact of peak hour traffic congestion, and improved road safety through the removal of a rail crossing on South Road.

SMEC provided detailed road, bridge and geotechnical designs as well as drainage, hydrology, traffic and transport planning services.
