19 October, Singapore – Surbana Jurong Group (SJG) and Patrick Bellew respectively win five project awards and the prestigious Fazlur R. Khan Lifetime Achievement Award at the Council of Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH)’s awards programme this year.

At the awards ceremony held yesterday, the CTBUH Board of Trustees bestowed the award to Patrick in recognition of his enduring commitment and excellent work in the integration of environmental and building systems with architecture.

Robert Bird Group (RBG) and KTP, leading engineering firms in tall building structures are once again winners at this year’s CTBUH awards. Four projects undertaken by RBG have won Best Tall Building awards – Best Tall Building 300-399 Meters Award of Excellence (Australia 108, located in Melbourne, Australia); Best Tall Building Oceania Award of Excellence (405 Bourke Street, located in Melbourne, Australia) and Best Tall Building Middle East & Africa Award of Excellence (ICD Brookfield Place, located in Dubai, UAE). Robert Bird Group’s construction engineering was also recognised in the Atlantis The Royal Resort (located in Dubai, UAE), which won Best Tall Building 100-199 Meters and the Overall Category Winner in the Best Tall Building Middle East & Africa Awards of Excellence.

“RBG is proud and honoured to have been associated with these great projects with our respective involvement in civil, structural and construction engineering – from conception to delivery of Australia 108, 405 Bourke Street, and ICD Brookfield place, and construction engineering for Atlantis.  These projects feature some incredibly challenging design and construction aspects relating to combinations of ground conditions, height, site constraints, and the inspirational architectural and client vision and aspiration, which all required and now showcase RBG’s world-class people and engineering capabilities to now turn into a reality.  Projects such as these are of course team efforts, at every level, and involve bringing together many individuals and teams from across the world, showcasing our global footprint, profile, and the consistent standards of excellence in RBG’s capability and capacity across the world,” said Jason Beutel, Chief Executive Officer, RBG.

Member company KTP Consultants undertook the civil, structural and geotechnical engineering scope for the Rivière Condo by Frasers in Singapore, which clinched the Construction Award of Excellence.

“The ‘head-to-toe’ construction engineering design approach of the Rivière Condo addressed multi-faceted complexities, including tight site constraints, intricate geology with undulating layers of soft marine clay and varying degree of rock weathering formations. We also rose to the challenge of scalable productivity in the high-rise construction. The team adopted out-of-the-box thinking to holistically redefine the utilitarian priority for efficient deep basement construction. Using circular caisson diaphragm walls, this enabled a highly productive and cost-effective strut-free substructures construction. We had utilised an integrated digital delivery in the construction engineering design with a performance-based approach, resulting in a highly environmentally friendly and successful implementation of the Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DfMA) construction in the 36 storey towers,” said Aaron Foong, managing director of KTP Consultants. “This win is a recognition of our advanced design thinking skills to solve challenging problems in engineering developments.”
