Sydney International Airport
SMEC delivered the design and construction of bulk earthworks, trunk drainage (stormwater), retention basins, and master grading of all surfaces and permanent road pavements at Western Sydney Airport. This provided additional aviation capacity to meet the growing demand in the Sydney basin and improve access to flights for people in Western Sydney.
Robert Bird Group was appointed for extending and refurbishing the terminal including arrivals, departures and over 12 aerobridges whilst enduring the continual operation of Australia’s largest gateway. One of the key aspects of the project included construction of new buildings over the existing rail tunnel which required large span transfer structure.
