With a fresh coat of paint with leaf motifs, young architects of Surbana Jurong’s SEEDS initiative have dramatically transformed a family service centre into a welcoming garden sanctuary. The family service centre is the Marine Parade Family Service Centre in the eastern part of Singapore, operated by Montfort Care. Watch our video here.

The community service is an outreach programme by the SEEDS movement, so named to reflect the objective of the Surbana Jurong Group to Enrich, Engage, Discover and Share among the architects in 40 countries. The two-weekend painting project at the family service centre is part of SEEDS’ efforts to enrich the learning and mentoring conditions for the growth of young architects and encourage cross-fertilisation of ideas.

The architects wanted to create a landmark mural for families visiting the centre. Member of Parliament for Marine Parade, Dr Tan See Leng, said the mural has livened up the area.

Surbana Jurong Group CEO Wong Heang Fine said the mural has brought the team together: “The architects of SJ Group are young, energetic and talented, and they are excited about shaping a better environment for the community they serve.”
