Surbana Jurong to study the feasibility of using electric and hydrogen fuel cells to power a fleet of more than 1,000 trucks

Pan-United Concrete, a subsidiary of Singapore’s largest concrete and cement provider Pan-United Corporation Ltd, and Surbana Jurong Pte Ltd have entered into a Project Development Partnership Agreement to study the feasibility of using electric and hydrogen fuel cells to power a fleet of more than 1,000 trucks moving its concrete business in Singapore.

The partnership supports Pan-United’s sustainability targets to:

  • Offer only low-carbon concrete by 2030
  • Offer carbon-neutral concrete products by 2040
  • Become a carbon-neutral ready-mix concrete company by 2050

As part of the Partnership, Surbana Jurong will study and evaluate the potential of decarbonizing Pan-United’s fleet of concrete mixer trucks and tipper trucks that currently operate on diesel.

This is the second partnership between Surbana Jurong and Pan-United. Two years ago, both parties signed an MOU with two other industry leaders, Keppel Data Centres, and Chevron, supported by the National Research Foundation, to jointly explore, identify and develop carbon capture technologies.

Mr. Yeo Choon Chong, CEO of Surbana Jurong’s ASEAN division, SJ is excited to contribute to Pan United Carbon’s sustainability initiative by leveraging our expertise in electrification and hydrogen solutions. “Partnerships are a key method of accelerating our collective efforts to build for a safe, sustainable, and resilient future for all,” he said.
