Surbana Jurong North Asia has signed an MOU with five parties in Hainan for projects in the development of the largest free trade zone (FTZ) in China.

The MOU paves the way for strategic cooperation on construction projects relating to fishing ports and fishery economic zones, agricultural industrial parks, and other projects in Hainan and promotes the development of the Hainan Free Trade Port. Tariffs will be cut to zero in principle by 2025, and businesses and individuals will enjoy tax breaks.

The five parties at the ceremony held on 30 December 2021 were: The State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission of Hainan Province, the Hainan Department of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, CITIC Construction, China National Agricultural Development Group, and ITOCHU Corporation.

Mr. Lim Hong Kian, CEO of North Asia, said Singapore and Hainan province share many similarities. SJ will leverage our deep experience in the planning, operation, park management, and industrial consultancy in a transformative project that will result in the largest free trade area in China.

He said: “We also hope to learn from the leaders of the Hainan Provincial Government and strategic partners, working together to build a first-class international fishing port in Hainan and accelerate the construction of Hainan’s free trade port.”
