Leading the pack in sustainability design

Surbana Jurong has received two accolades at the SGBC-BCA Leadership in Sustainability Awards, co-organized by the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) and the Building and Construction Authority (BCA). 

Mr. Praveen Hassan Chandrashekar, Head, Sustainability & Resilience Office, Surbana Jurong has been awarded “Professional Leadership in Sustainability”.

The award recognizes Mr. Chandrashekar’s contributions to helping SJ achieve the EP100, a global corporate initiative bringing together businesses committed to 100 percent renewable energy, as well as his leadership in developing the “Maintainable in Design Appraisal System” (MiDAS), the world’s first design tool for assessing maintainability of design in new and existing buildings. MiDAS is now integrated into the BCA Green Mark scheme. He is also the co-principal investigator for a chilled ceiling project, an R&D initiative under the SJ-NTU Corporate Lab.

NUS School of Design and Environment 4 has been awarded “Building Project Leadership in Sustainability (Carbon Performance)”. NUS SDE4, also the first university building to be awarded a WELL GOLD certification globally, defines a new standard for energy-efficient buildings. Surbana Jurong, in collaboration with Serie+Multiply Consultants and Transsolar KlimaEngineering, was the lead consultant for architecture, engineering, and environmentally sustainable design for the project.

Mr. Chandrashekar and the team behind NUS SDE4 were among 20 Green Mark Accredited Professionals (GMAPs), organizations, and building projects announced before over 500 representatives of the built environment sector during the SGBC Gala Dinner 2022 held at the Orchard Hotel Singapore last Friday. They received their plaques from Singapore Minister for Sustainability and the Environment Grace Fu.
