A total of 38,535 km of selected lines will be rehabilitated, upgraded or augmented.
Some 950,000 people are expected to receive electricity in their homes for the first time, thanks to efforts by SMEC, a member of the Surbana Jurong Group, which was recently engaged by the Bangladesh Rural Electrification Board (BREB) for a power consulting project.
SMEC will provide project monitoring consulting services for the upgrade and extension of electricity distribution systems in the rural areas of Bangladesh. A total of 38,535 km of selected lines will be rehabilitated, upgraded or augmented, 11,965 km of new lines will be constructed, and 57,834 new transformers installed. SMEC’s role is to oversee the implementation of the 24-month project, in accordance with BREB and Asian Development Bank guidelines. The consulting services also include the incorporation of industry best practices, and supporting efforts to build staff capability.
This is the third major project win for SMEC with BREB, which received financing from the Asian Development Bank and Government of Bangladesh for the project.
