At a dinner held in Cape Town on 12 October 2018, Mr Manicum was presented the prestigious award, given out to a registered Professional Technologist who has shown leadership qualities; provided sustained service to the profession; encouraged personal and professional growth among fellow professionals; shown innovation and enterprise; and is a worthy role model.

Mr Manicum has been with SMEC South Africa for 18 years and served in senior leadership roles in the South African Roads Federation and SAICE. Recently, he has been involved in piloting and delivering numerous successful Expanded Public Works Programmes, asset management and programme management projects. On receiving his award, Mr Manicum said working at SMEC provided him with “the opportunity to be mentored in both leadership and business by some incredible people, namely, our Surbana Jurong Africa COO Dr Tom Marshall and South Africa CEO Kostas Rontiris”.

The highlight of my career to date is the opportunity to work with and lead the KwaZulu-Natal region. Our management team are an amazing group of people who are like family. It’s a true privilege to be part of this team and the wonderfully talented staff in the region.”
