SMEC’s corporate social responsibility team in Indonesia has donated A$10,000 to Aksi Cepat Tanggap (ACT), Indonesia’s largest humanitarian non-profit organisation, for emergency assistance to victims of the magnitude-7.5 earthquake that hit Central Sulawesi in 2018.

The earthquake triggered a tsunami in the provincial capital city of Palu. The combined effects of the earthquake and tsunami led to the deaths of at least 2,100 people in Central Sulawesi, particularly Palu and the regencies of Sigi and Donggala. ACT, which focuses on disaster management from emergency phase to post-disaster recovery stage, will use the donation to supply food and water to the affected communities. SMEC is a member of the Surbana Jurong Group.
